Beagle Breed Profile

Description

A sturdy hunting dog, the Beagle should look like a foxhound in miniature. His hunting ability, combined with a merry personality, has made the Beagle one of the most popular dogs in the United States according to AKC« Registration Statistics. The most famous Beagle of all is Snoopy from the comic strip "Peanuts." Today's Beagle comes in two height varieties (13 in. and 15 in.) and any true hound color, including tri-color, red and white and lemon.

The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! Sociable, brave and intelligent, calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone.

Origin

The BeagleÆs history can be traced back to Ancient Greece. Beagles have had a variety of uses since the inception of the breed; today you can find Beagles as companions, therapy, hunting, search and rescue, and detection of various substances for law enforcement agencies.
