The American Staffordshire Terrier should give the impression of great strength for his size, a well put-together dog, muscular, but agile and graceful, keenly alive to his surroundings. He should be stocky, not long-legged or racy in outline. His courage is proverbial.
Any color, solid, parti, or patched is permissible.
The American Staffordshire Terrier is a happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog. Gentle and loving towards people. Good-natured, amusing, extremely loyal and affectionate family pet. It is good with children and adults.
The American Staffordshire TerrierÆs origin is in England, bred from the Old English Bulldog, and the now extinct White Terrier. They were bred for flock guarding duties, protection, and hunting large game. AmStaffÆs solid build, heavy muscles, and strong bite made them popular in the bull-baiting arena in the 1800s. Since bull-baiting became illegal, AmStaffÆs have been bred primarily as family companions.
