Pure white is the preferred color, although white with biscuit cream is permissible. The skin of the American Eskimo Dog is pink or gray.
The American Eskimo Dog is intelligent, alert, and friendly, although slightly conservative. At home it is an excellent watchdog, protective of its home and family. The American Eskimo Dog learns new tasks quickly and is eager to please.
The American Eskimo is thought to be closely related to the white German Spitz. However, due to anti-German feelings during World War I, the breeds name was changed to American Eskimo. It is thought that German settlers first brought the breed to the United States.
