Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen Breed Profile


This dog is used to hunt and has a long back and short legs. The outer coat is long and harsh to the touch, and along with that the dog has shaggy eyebrows, beard and mustache.


The coat is white with any combination of lemon, orange, black, sable, tricolor or grizzle markings.


The Grand Basset Griffon Vendeen is an adoring, clever, charming breed. They love children and make wonderful watch dogs. Sometimes stubborn but also eager to learn, they are an active breed with a grand willingness to please


The Grand Basset Griffon Venden originated in France and is known as a scent hound. Their keen sense of smell made them perfect for tracking and hunting small prey. Today they are sometimes considered for hunting, but mostly are family pets.
