Description
The Portuguese Podengo comes in three different sizes and 2 different coat types. The three sizes are small (pequeno), medium (medio) and large (grande) with the two different coats being smooth and wirehaired. The smooth coat is hard and long, with the wirehaired being medium-long and shaggy.
Coloring
Colors may include yellow, fawn, or black with white markings
Temperament
This dog makes a great watch dog, or hunting dog with its intelligent, lively spirit. These dogs make great companions for any family as well with its funny behaviors, but should not be let out alone.
Origin
The Portuguese Podengo originated from Portugal and was bred as a multi sensory hound for sight, sound and scent. They were known to hunt deer, rabbit and other small game. Today they make wonderful family pets and guard dogs.
