English Setters are energetic, people-oriented dogs, that are well suited to families who can give them attention and activity. Inside they tend to be lower energy and love to be couch potatoes and lap dogs that love to cuddle.[ They are gentle, affectionate, friendly, without shyness, fear or viciousness.
The English Setter originated in England, and is one of the oldest hunting breeds of dog. English SetterÆs were created by crossbreeding Spanish Pointers, Springer Spaniels, and other water retrieving dogs. The English Setter first came to the United States in the late 1800s, and quickly became a staple dog for hunters.
