Bluetick Coonhound Breed Profile

Description

The Bluetick should have the appearance of a speedy and well-muscled hound. He never appears clumsy or overly chunky in build. He has a neat, compact body, a glossy coat and clear, keen eyes. In motion he carriers his head and tail well up.

Coloring

Preferred color is a dark blue, thickly mottled body, spotted by various shaped black spots on back, ears and sides.

Temperament

The Bluetick Coonhound is a very intelligent dog.á Very devoted to its family, it makes a good companion dog.á It does well living indoors and plays a fine guardian to his family and home.

Origin

The Bluetick Coonhound descended from English Foxhounds and various French hounds. They were bred not just for their hunting abilities, but also for their blue color. BluetickÆs have been popular since the 1700s, most notably owned by first President George Washington. One Bluetick owned by the former president was recorded as giving birth to 15 puppies.
