Symmetry and general appearance are decidedly square and cobby. A lean, leggy Pug and a dog with short legs and a long body are equally objectionable.

Origin
The Pug originated in China in the 17th century. They adorned the laps of Chinese sovereigns during the Shang Dynasty. From China, the Pug made it to Tibet, where they were kept and bred by monks.
