Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Purebred Dog Breed

Description

Low-set, strong, sturdily built and active, giving an impression of substance and stamina in a small space. Should not be so low and heavy-boned as to appear coarse or overdone, nor so light-boned as to appear racy. Outlook bold, but kindly. Expression intelligent and interested. Never shy nor vicious.

Coloring

Red, sable, fawn, black and tan with or without white markings.

Temperament

The pembroke welsh corgi is a highly intelligent, bold, affectionate, protective and obedient companion.

Origin

Unlike most breeds, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi has no traceable history. Though their origins are shrouded in myth and legend, they can be traced to the British Isles as early as the 9th or 10th century. They were bred to herd cows and horses and because of their small stature, they were small enough to avoid being kicked by the animals.
