The Flat-Coated Retriever is a versatile family companion hunting retriever with a happy and active demeanor, intelligent expression, and clean lines.

Solid black or solid liver.

Temperament

He is a responsive, loving member of the family, a versatile working dog, multi-talented, sensible, bright and tractable. In competition the Flat-Coat demonstrates stability and a desire to please with a confident, happy and outgoing attitude characterized by a wagging tail.

Origin

The Flat-Coated Retriever was developed in England in the mid-1800Æs exclusively as a birding dog, capable of retrieving game in dense brush as well as water. This particular Retriever was derived from crossing many different retrieving breeds, including the Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland, Irish Setter, and now extinct St. JohnÆs Water Dog, with possibly a little Collie thrown in.
