Origin

The Chow Chow originated in China almost 2,500 years ago, making them one of the oldest breeds known to man. Their thick coats protected them from the harsh climates they were exposed to. The Chow Chow finally left China in the 1800 for England, as a gift to the Queen. Once in England, selected breeding lead to the dog we see today. The modern Chow is hardly seen in China today.
