Origin

The Beauceron is an old breed originating in France as early as the 1500s. Their primary job was flock herding and guarding. The Beauceron is one of the few breeds that can claim no cross-breeding to foreign breeds in their history, as they are truly a native dog to France. BeauceronÆs have also served as family guardians, as most French farms were not fenced in. Until the French Revolution, they were almost exclusively owned by the French Nobility.
