Description

The Affenpinscher is a balanced, wire-haired terrier-like toy dog whose intelligence and demeanor make it a good house pet.The total overall appearance of the Affenpinscher is more important than any individual characteristic. He is described as having a neat but shaggy appearance.

Coloring

Black, gray, silver, red, black and tan, or beige are all acceptable.

Temperament

General demeanor is game, alert, generally quiet and inquisitive with great loyalty and affection toward its master and friends.

Origin

The Affenpinscher originated in Germany, and is the most ancient of the Toy breeds on record. They were bred to hunt vermin in stables as well as in the houses. As time passed, Affens became popular with noblewomen, who preferred them as lapdogs. By the 17th century, the Affenpinscher moved away from being a working breed to being a luxury breed.
